How to set up your Instagram business page and Facebook page

And as a business owner, it’s also the best place where you can get to know your customers, prospects, and fans better.  

With a Facebook page and Instagram account, they can leave reviews, share opinions, voice concerns, and offer feedback.

And the best part?

You can get FREE advertising from advocates of your brand when they post about you or share your posts.

That’s what the experts call “word of mouth” advertising.

But a regular Facebook/Instagram account isn’t what you need.

You need a business page.

And don’t worry, setting it up is easy.

Read on as we take you through the process of setting up a Facebook page and Instagram profile for your business.      

Facebook Page
Requirements

Before you set up a Facebook Page for your business, here’s what you need to have:

1.) Your Business Name and Description

If you don’t already have one, come up with a name that they’ll never forget. And of course, don’t forget to write something about how you got started and what your business is about.

2.) Profile and Cover Photo

You don’t want customers to think your page is fake, right? Just like any other profile on social media, add a photo of your business. It could be a logo or a photo of your physical store – anything that will show your customers, prospects, and fans that you are legit.

If you have those two ready, you can start making your Facebook page.

Creating a Facebook Page

STEP 1
Go to www.facebook.com/pages/create.

STEP 2

Click “Category” to choose one. Are you running a beauty salon? Or are you selling supplies? You can choose a category based on what kind of business you are running.
STEP 3
Fill out the rest of the required information. Add your page name and a short description about your business. You can also include your business’ purpose and vision in this section.
STEP 4
Click “Create Page” and add your profile photo and cover photo, then click save.

Requirements

Just like any other Instagram account, you can post photos of your products and your brand…

But a Instagram business comes with a few extra features, including:

☝ ️Swipe Up

If you reach 10,000 followers on your Business Instagram account, you can earn the “swipe up” feature on your Instagram stories which will make it easier for people to get to your website directly. You can also use “swipe up” for a specific product, event, or service, and even tracking the visits and effectiveness of your post.

📈 Analytics

With analytics, you can get a better idea of how many people swiped up on your posts, how many visited your account, how many people recently followed you, and more!

With this information, you can have more data to work with, assess your posts more effectively, and adjust your strategy to make sure you’re building a better relationship with your audience.

*Note: You need at least 100 followers to show the insights on posts.

📞 The “Contact” Button

As soon as you set up your Instagram Business profile, you’ll get a “contact” button. This will make it easier for people to call, email, or visit your website.

Business Account

With a business account, you can also start running ads right inside Instagram!

If you don’t have an Instagram account, here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: Download the Instagram app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).

Step 2: Once it’s installed, open the app.

Step 3: Tap Sign Up With Email or Phone Number (Android) or Create New Account (iPhone), then enter your email address or phone number (which will require a confirmation code) and tap Next.

You can also tap Log in with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account.

Step 4: If you register with your email or phone number, create a username and password, fill out your profile info and then tap Next.

If you register with Facebook, you’ll be prompted to log into your Facebook account if you’re currently logged out.

And voilà! You now have an Instagram account.

But not so fast!

This isn’t the business account yet.

Here are the steps you need to follow to switch your profile to a business account:

Step 1: Go to your profile and tap the icon () in the upper right corner.

Step 2: Tap Settings. (⚙️)

For some accounts, the Switch to Professional Account option will be listed directly under Settings.

Step 3: Tap Account.

Step 4: Tap Switch to Professional Account.

Step 5: Tap Continue.

Step 6: Select a Category for your business and tap Done.

Step 7: Tap OK to confirm.

Step 8: Tap Business.

Step 9: Tap Next.

Step 10: Add Contact details and tap Next. Or tap Don’t use my contact info to skip this step.

Step 11: If you’d like, you can follow the steps to connect your business account to a Facebook Page associated with your business.

This step is optional, and will make it easier to use all of the features available for businesses across the Facebook family of apps.

At this time, only one Facebook Page can be connected to your business account.

Step 12: Tap X on the top right corner to return to your profile.

And you’re done!
